Five channels, checked live on 9 October 2026. Every line traces to a source captioned on the page.
| Channel | Yachting Directions | Flying Fish Sailing | Pacific Sailing School | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google rankings 6 money searches | Page one on 0 of 6 | Page one on 4 of 6 | Page one on 3 of 6 | Two schools hold page one on the course searches, and one of them also buys the RYA term. |
| Google Ads Transparency Centre, AU | 0 ads on record | 17 ads on record | 18 ads on record | One competitor is paying for the RYA searches. Nobody is paying for the beginner terms. |
| Meta Ads Ad Library, active now | No ads match your search criteria | ~21 results | No ads found | Both schools run Google ads instead. Neither shows a verifiable Meta ad, and yours returns nothing at all. |
| Landing page Where the click lands | No form, ten phone links | Course pages, a booking path and the licence offer in the first screen | Two forms, 14 fields | Your site sells the experience, and the schools above you sell the booking. Those are different pages doing different jobs. |
| Reputation Google rating (reviews) | Profile with no reviews | 4.9 (120 reviews) | 4.5 (40 reviews) | Both of the sailing schools above you carry public review profiles. In a category where people hand over a boat and a weekend, that is the first thing a customer reads. |
Flying Fish Sailing holds five of the six searches, including both listings under yachtmaster, and Pacific Sailing School holds the top of sailing school Sydney. The learn to sail search has no school on page one at all, just YouTube and a forum. You rank on none of the six.
Positions read live from Google Australia on 9 October 2026, not estimated.
| Search term | Searches / mo | Yachting Directions | Flying Fish Sailing | Pacific Sailing School |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| sailing courses sydney | High est. | Not in top 10 | #6 | #2 |
| rya courses sydney | Medium est. | Not in top 10 | #2 | #7 |
| learn to sail sydney | High est. | Not in top 10 | Not in top 10 | Not in top 10 |
| sailing school sydney | High est. | Not in top 10 | #2 | #1 |
| yachtmaster course australia | Medium est. | Not in top 10 | #2 | Not in top 10 |
| boat share sydney | Medium est. | Not in top 10 | Not in top 10 | Not in top 10 |
Two things stand out. The learn to sail search has no school on page one at all, only YouTube, a club and a forum thread, which means nobody is answering the most obvious question in the category. And the yachtmaster term is answered twice over by the one school. Both of those are gaps rather than walls.
The chain, with every assumption written down. Deliberately conservative.
The six searches in this report at an example volume a city this size supports. An example, not a measured figure.
The clicks you do not get today, once those pages sit around position three, rounded down.
Enquiries at 5% of those visits, rounded down.
Course enquiries, not enrolments. What a course place is worth is your number, not mine.
Halve the example volume and it is still one serious sailor a month who never finds you. The searches happen whether or not you rank. Today they land on the two schools sitting on page one.
Estimates, not promises. Each assumption is deliberately conservative so the number holds up.
Build one page per course the way the sailor searches for it, put the 24 years and the RYA accreditation into the text, and take the beginner terms where the pages currently ranking say less than you could.
| Advertiser | Ads on record | Last ran | Headline seen | Lands on | Offer on the page |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flying Fish Sailing | 17 | Active now | One Day Boat Licence Course | flyingfishsailing.com.au | 4.9 from 117 reviews, with Call, Website and Directions buttons on the ad |
| Pacific Sailing School | 18 | Active now | Learn to Sail Today | pacificsailingschool.com.au | Competent Crew and Start Yachting courses, Australian Sailing qualifications |
| Yachting Directions | 0 | Nothing on record | No ad on record | yachtingdirections.com.au | Course pages and ten phone links |
Flying Fish runs seventeen ads and Pacific runs eighteen, and their offers are concrete: a one day boat licence course, a named yacht for charter, a competency course for beginners. A third school is buying the RYA course term in the auction. You run nothing, and both of the schools above you use the licence and beginner courses as the front door rather than the yacht itself.
Pacific Sailing School asks for the enrolment on the page with two forms and 14 fields, and it holds the top of the sailing school search. Your courses are sold entirely over the phone. Ten phone links is a lot of asking, and none of it works for the sailor reading at 10pm.
Neither school is on the feed, and the licence course is the hook they use on Google
The Meta library returns nothing for your name and unrelated advertisers for theirs, so the feed is open in this category. The schools sell the boat licence as the way in because it is the cheapest first step a beginner can take.
Thirty seconds on the water with a first timer at the helm does more than a photograph of a moored yacht. It is the same promise their ads make, in the medium they have not used.
Why this matters: a stronger headline and hook lifts click-through. Higher click-through lowers what Meta charges per click. Cheaper clicks mean more visits from the same budget, and more visits mean more enquiries. Nobody in this category is buying attention on the feed yet, and the schools are winning with beginner courses rather than with the yachts.
You have ten phone links and no form. Most people researching a course at night will not call; they will book the school that lets them ask online.
Learn to sail and sailing school are held by two schools whose pages are built for the search rather than for the sailor. Your 24 years belongs on those pages.
Yachtmaster, RYA and beginner courses are three different customers. One page each, named the way they search it, and the pages you already have start working.
The boat share searches are held by marketplaces that do not teach. Your boat share offer is the only one on page one that comes with an instructor.
Sailing is sold on the water and nobody above you is on the feed, which means the first good clip of a beginner helming a yacht would be the only one a Sydney audience sees.
If you want the same treatment applied to the whole funnel, the next step is a working session. I will take this report apart line by line, show you where the enquiries are leaking and what the first 90 days look like.
Book a time with DeanAt 18 I started a corporate events company doing photo booths, DJing and photography. I could not afford an agency, so I taught myself web development, Meta Ads, Google Ads and SEO off YouTube, got myself to number one on Google, and took it to roughly $300,000.
